Bloodstock market note, week 42 of 2026: Tattersalls October Yearling Sale 2026, Books 1-3

The first note: the Tattersalls October yearling sale results in plain words, from Tattersalls' own figures checked against the trade press, plus last year's Horses in Training Sale as the benchmark for this year's. What sold, what the median tells you, and what it means if you buy from the Gulf.

Figures are copied exactly as the sale company published them and checked against one trade-press report. If a figure could not be read, or two sources disagreed, there is no note that week: we never estimate. Top prices are public auction results, not horses for sale. Nothing here is financial advice.

At the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Book 1 the median was 230,000 gns (up 10% on 2025). Half the horses sold for that or less. The top price makes the headlines; the median is what most buyers actually paid.

This week in the market

  1. This first note covers the three main books of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale 2026 (6-16 October 2026), plus last year's Horses in Training Sale as the benchmark before this year's sale (26-29 October 2026).
  2. Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Book 1 (6-8 October 2026): median 230,000 gns (up 10% on 2025), average 359,420 gns (up 12% on 2025), top price 4,600,000 gns.
  3. Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Book 2 (12-14 October 2026): 75,166,000 gns in total, median 85,000 gns (up 12% on 2025), average 114,757 gns (up 7% on 2025).
  4. Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Book 3 (15-16 October 2026): 375 sold, 9,198,800 gns in total, top price 150,000 gns.
  5. Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale 2025 (27-31 October 2025): 1,009 sold, 33,867,500 gns in total (down 5% on 2024), median 15,000 gns (down 6% on 2024), average 33,565 gns (down 4% on 2024), top price 950,000 gns.
  6. The median is the middle price: half the horses sold for that or less. A few expensive horses pull the average up, so for most budgets the median is the number to watch.
  7. We show only the figures that the sale company publishes and the press report we checked also states. Anything else is left out (a dash in the table); we never estimate.
  8. Next: Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale (26-29 October 2026); Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale (3-11 November 2026). We cover them in the next note, once the official figures are out.

What it means for a Gulf buyer

  • What the median buys at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Book 1: a yearling, usually a year or more from its first race, for 230,000 gns (about £241,500, roughly US$319,000, AED 1,171,000 or SAR 1,195,000).
  • What the median buys at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Book 2: a yearling, usually a year or more from its first race, for 85,000 gns (about £89,250, roughly US$118,000, AED 433,000 or SAR 442,000).
  • What the median buys at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale 2025: a horse already in training, able to run this winter, for 15,000 gns (about £15,750, roughly US$21,000, AED 76,000 or SAR 78,000).
  • AED and SAR are pegged to the dollar; pounds use the rough rate on our cost pages (£1 = US$1.32), and one guinea is £1.05. Conversions are rough, for orientation only.
  • The price is only the start. A year in training in Britain runs to about US$34,000-46,000 before insurance. See what a racehorse really costs.
  • Flying it to the Gulf adds the flight, quarantine, customs and import VAT. Work it out with the racehorse import cost calculator, and put any price into your own currency with the cost calculator.
  • Want a runner at Meydan this season? The Dubai season starts in November, and the right horse starts at the right sale. Read our Dubai Racing Carnival guide.
  • Buying at the next sale? Set your limit in writing before the day. We bid for you, in person or by phone, up to that limit and no further. Start with the sales we buy from.

The figures: official sale results

In the currency each sale trades in (1 guinea = £1.05). "Median vs a year earlier" is our sum on the sale company's own page (this year's row against last year's), shown only when the press report states the same change. A dash means the press report we checked does not state that figure, so we leave it out. Swipe the table sideways on a phone.

How we make this note

  • Official first: the sale company's own statistics and results pages (lots offered, sold, turnover, average, median, top price, and last year's row on the same page).
  • One press check: a trade-press report must state the same figures. Any figure it does not state is left out; with no matching report there is no note.
  • Numbers only: no horse, lot, seller or buyer names. The "our sum" percentages are simple sums on the published figures; clearance appears only when the sale company states it.
  • Spotted an error? Email info@silkroadbloodstock.com and we fix it within 48 hours.
