The best horses are not all in one country, and neither are the best owners. A good horse can be found in Newmarket, Deauville, Lexington or Sydney. The owner might live in Tokyo or New York. Our job is to join the two, honestly, and to keep the paperwork from eating your weekend.

Below is what we can do in each region, and the one local rule you should know first. Rules change. We check them with you, and with the racing authority, before you buy. Nothing here is legal or tax advice.

Region by region

UK and Ireland

What we can do: buy for you at Tattersalls, Goffs and the other leading sales, or privately from yards; sell your horse quietly to buyers in the Gulf and Asia; place your horse with a licensed trainer and supervise the plan.

Local reality: owners register with the racing authority (the BHA in Britain, HRI in Ireland). Rules apply; we check them with you before you buy. How to buy at Tattersalls from overseas.

France

What we can do: buy at Arqana and privately, and place horses with licensed French trainers.

Local reality: France Galop approves owners, and approval takes time, so start early. Rules apply; we check them with you before you buy. Owners in Britain, Ireland and France: our guide

USA (Kentucky, New York)

What we can do: buy at Keeneland and Fasig-Tipton for clients abroad, find European turf horses for American racing, and arrange the flight with licensed shippers.

Local reality: each state licenses its own owners (in Kentucky, the Kentucky Horse Racing and Gaming Corporation). Import quarantine also applies. We check the details with you before you buy. Buying for the USA: our full guide.

Japan

What we can do: buy European mares, yearlings and horses in training for owners and breeders who already hold a licence, and introduce Japanese-bred horses to Gulf buyers.

Local reality: JRA owner licences are hard to get for non-residents: the JRA reviews income, assets and background, and many applications are refused. We cannot get a licence for anyone. Buying for Japan: our full guide

Hong Kong

What we can do: send permit holders a shortlist of rated European horses, arrange vetting before any money moves, and ship the horse to your Hong Kong trainer.

Local reality: horses race only for owners who hold an HKJC import permit (PP or PPG), and the Club can still reject a horse at its own vet check. We cannot get a permit for anyone. Hong Kong PP and PPG permits explained · Our Hong Kong shortlist service.

Mainland China

What we can do: help with breeding stock, sport horses and Arabians for clubs, and with owning a horse that races overseas, in Hong Kong, Australia or Europe, under those countries' own owner rules.

Local reality: racing on the mainland is not like racing in Hong Kong or Europe, and import and money rules are strict. You always pay the seller directly through lawful banking; we take no part in moving money.

Australia

What we can do: find European stayers and horses in training for the spring carnival, and buy at Inglis and Magic Millions for clients overseas.

Local reality: imported horses go through quarantine before export and again after arrival (at least 14 days, usually at Mickleham in Victoria), so plan months ahead. Why European-bred stayers do well in the Melbourne Cup · Buying for Australia: our full guide.

UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain

What we can do: this is home. We buy in Europe and worldwide for owners in the Gulf, ship to Meydan or Riyadh, and place horses with licensed local trainers.

Local reality: each country has its own racing authority and owner registration. Rules apply; we check them with you before you buy. Buy a racehorse in Dubai · Buy a racehorse in Saudi Arabia.

How it works from anywhere

  1. Email. Tell Sami what you want, your budget and where you want to race. A few lines is enough.
  2. Video call in your time zone. A free 20-minute call, booked by email, at a time that suits you, from Tokyo to New York.
  3. Shortlist and vet reports by email. 3-5 horses with form, pedigree notes, video, X-rays and independent vet reports. You decide from home.
  4. You pay the seller directly, in the sale's own currency: guineas, euros, US dollars, yen or Australian dollars. Then we arrange the flight to your licensed trainer.

5% fee (min US$5,000), agreed in writing. You pay the seller directly; your money never goes through us. If we are ever paid by both sides, both are told in writing first. Fees and how we work.

Licensed trainers train. We help you choose the trainer, place the horse and keep an eye on the plan. And we will not promise you a winner: a horse can win, lose or get hurt, and anyone who says otherwise is selling something.
