Every March, Meydan hosts the night that racing people plan their year around. The grandstand is more than a kilometre long, the hats are taller than the jockeys, and the last race is worth more than most racecourses pay out in a season.
Faris (invented, 41, a sensible family business and an unsensible love of racing) went to World Cup night last year as a guest. This year he wants to go as an owner. Auntie Mariam asked one question: "Which race, and how good does the horse have to be?" This guide is the answer.
When is the Dubai World Cup 2027?
Saturday 27 March 2027 at Meydan Racecourse, Dubai. It is the last meeting of the 2026-27 UAE season, which has 64 meetings at 5 racecourses.
The 2026 race was the 30th Dubai World Cup, run on Saturday 28 March 2026 and won by Magnitude. The first was run in 1996. Always check Dubai Racing Club's official fixtures before you book flights, hats or both.
What races are on Dubai World Cup night?
9 races: one for Purebred Arabians, then 8 for Thoroughbreds, building to the Dubai World Cup itself. The table shows the order and conditions as published for recent meetings, and the 2026 prize money.

Auntie Mariam noted that the ninth race is worth more than the first six put together. "So they keep the expensive one for last," she said, "like a wedding."
What is the road to the Dubai World Cup?
Most World Cup night runners have run in the Dubai Racing Carnival, on Super Saturday, at the Saudi Cup meeting or in Group races abroad. The key dates for 2026-27 are below.

How does a horse get a run on Dubai World Cup night?
Runners on World Cup night are invited by Dubai Racing Club under its Dubai World Cup terms. In practice it takes a high-class horse with strong recent form. A budget for a Carnival horse and a budget for a World Cup night horse are very different numbers.
Here is the honest ladder, from the bottom rung up:
- The Carnival: the 2026-27 terms do not accept horses aged 3 and up rated below 80. Dubai Racing Club considers travel incentives for horses rated 105 and above, horse by horse; those horses must run at least twice at Meydan to keep them.
- Feature nights and Super Saturday: stronger races, often the trials for March.
- World Cup night: by invitation, for the best horses from the UAE and around the world.
Faris asked whether he could buy a horse in November and run it in the World Cup in March. The honest answer is: possibly, if the horse is already very good, already sound and already travelling well. That horse exists. It is rare, and it is not cheap. A horse for the Carnival handicaps is a far more realistic first step, and a great deal of fun.

Going to World Cup night before you own a horse
Go. A night at Meydan, even as a guest, is the best research in racing: you see the horses up close, watch how the trainers work and learn which races you would love to win.
Carnival nights earlier in the season are calmer and cheaper, with tickets reported from about Dh10. Arrive early, because Dubai traffic has no interest in your post time. And remember Auntie Mariam's rule: watch the horses in the parade ring before you watch the scoreboard.
